The European Union’s (EU) data protection regulation is called the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The GDPR is designed to harmonize data privacy laws across Europe, to protect all EU citizens’ online data privacy, and to reshape the way organizations who do business in the EU approach data privacy.
This article addresses questions you might have about GDPR and Taskrabbit, particularly with respect to EU citizens’ right to request and delete data.
Requesting Data:
GDPR grants users the right to obtain information from companies as to whether personal data concerning them is being processed, where it is being processed, and for what purpose it’s being processed. Taskrabbit will provide an electronic copy of requested personal data to our EU Users free of charge, upon written request.
Deleting Data:
Under GDPR’s guidelines, EU citizens also have the “right to be forgotten.” This means they can request verbally or in writing that a company erase all personally identifying data associated with them, cease further dissemination of their data, and potentially have third parties halt processing of the data. Companies have one month to respond to a request.
It’s important to note that this right is not absolute and doesn’t apply in all circumstances. For example, information that Taskrabbit is required by law to retain, or that it needs for the establishment or defense of legal claims, is not subject to erasure.
