Why do I need a basic disclosure certificate?
Many tasks take place in clients’ homes or businesses and criminal background checks are important for maintaining trust and safety on the TaskRabbit platform.
What is a basic disclosure?
A Basic Disclosure is a copy of your criminal history. This is called ‘basic disclosure’ and shows unspent convictions and conditional cautions. It’s available for people living or working in Scotland.

What do I need for my online application?
You'll need the following information to hand before you start your online application:
- Your address details for the past 5 years
- Your National Insurance number (if you have one)
- Your passport number (if you have a passport – it can be from any country)
- Your driving licence number, for either a full or provisional licence (if you have a licence)
- Your non-UK identity card number (if you have one)
- You will also need a credit or debit card to pay online.
During the application Disclosure Scotland's partner agency TransUnion will try to verify your identity online so your application can be processed more quickly.
How long does it take to get my certificate?
90% of basic disclosure applications are completed within 14 calendar days. You're likely to receive your basic disclosure certificate within this time, although it might take longer if there are any mistakes or if Disclosure Scotland need to contact you for more information.
What certificates are accepted?
There are three main levels of criminal record disclosures available in Scotland.
- Basic disclosure
- Standard disclosure
- Enhanced disclosure
TaskRabbit requires all of its Taskers to hold a basic DBS certificate; however, all other levels will also be acceptable.
What if I already have a basic disclosure certificate?
TaskRabbit accepts certificates that have been issued within the last 12 months. Please check the date of your certificate to ensure it was issued within the last 12 months and then upload it by clicking here. If your certificate is older than 12 months, please click here for instructions on how to obtain a new certificate.

Please ensure that the DBS certificate you upload is
- Dated within the last 12 months
- Includes all sides of all pages
- Is a colour copy
- Is in png., jpg, or PDF format.
Contact the Disclosure Scotland’s applications team if you’re a transgender applicant and you do not want to reveal details of your previous identity during this process .
