Starting Thursday, January 5, 2017, there are some changes coming to your Tasker app.
Your Available to Respond toggle can now be found in a new screen in your Tasker app: Get Invitations.
In some cities, you will see an option to set your preferences so that you can receive invitations for tasks on that Same Day.
I see the option to set my Same Day Preferences. What is this?
We understand that you want to connect with more prospective Clients about on-demand tasks, so we have created a feature that allows you to receive invitations for tasks that Clients need completed that same day. You can now specify when, where, and what you want to do on a given day, and if your preferences match a Client’s needs, you receive a task invitation that is tailored specifically to you.
Same Day Invitations work a lot like a Direct Invitation for a future task, but you receive the invitations based on work areas, Quick Assign hourly Client rates, and time slots to which you agree for that day.
Once you receive an invitation, you have 30 minutes to respond to the invitation with at least one chat message. You will then have as much time as you need to confirm all of the details before scheduling the appointment.
What steps can I take to get Same Day Invitations?
In the latest version of the Tasker app, you will notice a new option labeled “Get Invitations”.
Tap on “Get Invitations’, and you will be taken to this screen:
The first thing you are asked is if you are Available to Respond. You’ve seen this toggle before, in your Calendar screen, and it works the same way here.
When your Availability to Respond option is on, you have indicated that you are available to respond to task invitations with at least one chat message within 30 minutes of receiving the invitation.
Below that, you will have the option to Set Your Preferences for Same Day Invitations and for Future Invitations.
Setting your preferences for Future Invitations will pull up your Calendar screen and allow you to set your default availability. You can find more information about setting availability here.
But what if you want to receive direct invitations for tasks that are being booked today? Now you can! Under “Same Day”, select “Set Your Preferences” to pull up this screen:
These are your Same Day Preferences, and you can adjust them throughout the day as needed in order to meet the changing demands of your day. These preferences reset at midnight so that you start each day with a clean slate. Elite Taskers recommend setting your Same Day preferences at the start of each day.
Let’s explore the three questions that the Same Day Preferences screen asks you:
Because your day takes you to different places, you can now draw a map area to determine where you want to work today. Please note: your Same Day Map resets at midnight, and your Default Map still controls where you receive invitations for future tasks.
Elite Taskers recommend drawing your Same Day Map close to your starting point and smaller than your Default Map, in order to make navigation easier.
Drawing your Same Day Map works just like drawing your default map. For a refresher on how to draw your map, check out this article.
We understand that you might not always be traveling with the tools you need for every category in your profile. Tap here to choose which categories you’re ready for today. Please note: the only categories listed are those you have already opted into.
When you select a Same Day category, you’ll also see that day’s Quick Assign Client hourly rate, or the hourly rate that the Client will pay. By selecting that you are available to work in that category, you agree to the listed Quick Assign Client hourly rate.
We understand that you have a lot going on in your day, so we created the ability to set your Same Day availability down to 30-minute increments. Please note that at this time you’re only able to set a single block of availability, so please remember to update this section as needed throughout the day!
Once you have set your Where, What, and When preferences, tap Save and mark yourself as Available to Respond in order to receive Same Day Task Invitations!
How will this affect Available Tasks?
Available Tasks are still there for you to browse, but you might notice that the push notification bell for Available Tasks has gone away. When you mark yourself as Available to Respond, you will receive push notifications for Available Tasks for future dates as well as invitations based on the preferences you’ve set. We want to provide you with as many task opportunities as possible!
The Available Task push notifications work the same way as they did before this change:
- If you receive a push notification for a future Available Task that you cannot perform, you may ignore the notification at no penalty.
- If you do not wish to receive push notifications for Available Tasks, you can simply leave the most recent notification alone without taking action on it, and you will not receive any more notifications.
- If you wish to receive more Available Task push notifications, you will want to take action on (either ignore or accept) the most recent notification.
You can find more information about managing Available Tasks here.
