In accordance with IRS reporting rules, all tax reporting for Taskers will be done by our payment processing partner, Braintree Payments.
Taskers who had more than $20,000 sent to their bank account AND completed more than 200 tasks during a reporting year (the thresholds are $600 sent to their bank account AND 1 task during a reporting year for Taskers in Massachusetts) will receive a 1099-K from us. Please note that the “Filer” listed on the 1099-K is “PayPal Inc (Braintree division).”
For all other Taskers, Braintree Payments does not send 1099Ks; however, all Taskers will receive a summary of their earnings. This earnings summary will include an itemized list of all completed tasks from the past year. Earnings summaries are available to be downloaded at any time on your transaction history page:
Q: Isn't a 1099-MISC or 1099-K required to file my taxes?
A: No. You are obligated to report income you receive, whether or not that income is reported on a 1099 or other tax report.
Q: Can someone at TaskRabbit help me figure out my taxes?
A: As a Tasker, you are an independent contractor. TaskRabbit is not your employer and cannot provide you with any tax advice. As every person's situation is different, we recommend that you consult your own tax advisor.
Q: Does the IRS have any resources for Taskers?
A: Yes. Please read the articles in the IRS’s Sharing Economy Tax Center.
