What You Need to Know About Bill 96 in Quebec

The goal of Quebec’s Bill 96 (an amendment to the Charter of the French Language (Bill 101) in Quebec is to protect and strengthen French as the official language within the province.

Effective as of June 2023, this bill imposes a legal requirement to provide your services in the French language. This is applicable across all categories available on the Taskrabbit platform in the Province of Quebec.

Our suggestions for best practices are:

  • You should use the same language as your clients and the language preference should always be honored when clients ask to be serviced in French. The client’s task description can help you identify your client’s preferred language.

  • If you are unsure which language your client prefers, you can always initiate contact in both languages. Prepare a text that you can easily copy & paste into the chat thread.

  • Your profile should be bilingual, with both French and English. Ensure all your category descriptions, your closing message, etc, are written in both French and English.

  • We recommend adding the languages you speak to your profile. You can do this within the app by selecting: “Profile”, “Tasker Profile”, and “Quick Facts”.

Taskrabbit is committed to creating compliant, safe, and reliable experiences for all users. As such, all our users agree, in the Terms of Service, that users will comply with all local, state, provincial, national, or international laws in their use of the platform.
