If you are not a UK citizen, you will need a share code from the UK government to verify your right to work. A share code is a free, secure way to prove your immigration status without handing over physical documents.
What you will need before you start:
One of the following:
1. your biometric residence permit (BRP) number,
2. your eVisa details,
3. or your visa application number.Access to the email address or phone number linked to your UKVI (UK Visas and Immigration) account.
The process will take around 5 minutes to complete.
Step-by-step guide:
Go to the government website. Visit gov.uk/prove-right-to-work from any browser on your phone or computer.
Sign in. Enter your biometric residence permit number, eVisa details, or visa application number. You will also need to verify your identity using a code sent to your email or phone.
Select "Get a share code". When asked why you need the code, choose "to prove my right to work" or the equivalent option.
Copy your share code. The system will generate a 9-character code in the format XXX-XXX-XXX. Write it down or copy it somewhere safe.
Return to Taskrabbit. Open the verification link you received from Taskrabbit (via email, in-app, or push notification). Enter your share code and your date of birth.
Wait for the result. Persona will check your code against the UKVI system. In most cases, you will receive a result within seconds.
Things to keep in mind:
Share codes expire after 90 days. If your code has expired, you can generate a new one by repeating the steps above.
Each share code is single-use per employer check. If your first attempt fails for a technical reason, you may need to generate a new code.
The government website is free to use. You should never pay anyone to receive a share code.
If you cannot sign in to the UKVI system, contact the Home Office for support before reaching out to Taskrabbit.
Troubleshooting:
"I don't have a BRP or eVisa." If you have a valid visa but cannot access the share code system, contact Taskrabbit Support. There may be an alternative route depending on your visa type.
"The government website is not working." The UKVI system occasionally experiences downtime. Wait a short while and try again. If the issue persists for more than a day, let us know.
