If you entered a share code and it was not accepted, there are a few common reasons this can happen. In most cases, you can fix the issue and try again immediately.
Common reasons for rejection:
1. Your share code has expired
Share codes are valid for 90 days from the date they are generated. If too much time has passed since you created yours, it will no longer work.
What to do: Visit gov.uk/prove-right-to-work and generate a new share code. It is free and takes just a few minutes. Then return to Taskrabbit and try again with the new code.
2. Incorrect date of birth
The date of birth you enter in Taskrabbit must match exactly what the UKVI system has on file. Even a small difference (for example, the day and month in the wrong order) will cause a failure.
What to do: Double-check the date of birth you entered and make sure the format matches what was requested (typically DD/MM/YYYY). Then, try again.
3. Typo in the share code
Share codes follow the format XXX-XXX-XXX (nine characters with hyphens). A missing letter, extra space, or wrong character will cause a rejection.
What to do: Re-enter the code carefully. If you copied it digitally, paste it directly to avoid typos.
4. The share code has already been used
Each share code is single-use per employer check. If a previous attempt partially completed or timed out, the code may have been consumed.
What to do: Generate a fresh share code at gov.uk/prove-right-to-work and try again.
5. The UKVI system is temporarily unavailable
On rare occasions, the government's verification system may be experiencing downtime or slow response times. If this happens, the check may time out.
What to do: Wait 15 to 30 minutes and try again. If the problem continues for more than a few hours, contact Taskrabbit Support and we will follow up.
