Why is Taskrabbit doing this?
UK law requires businesses to confirm that everyone working through their platform has the legal right to work in the United Kingdom. To meet this requirement, Taskrabbit is asking all UK Taskers to complete a short verification process.
This applies to every Tasker using the platform in the UK, whether you are a UK citizen or a non-UK national with permission to work.
Do I have to pay for anything?
No. The entire verification process is free for Taskers. If you need a share code, that is also free to generate through the government website.
How long does the verification take?
For UK citizens using a passport, the process typically takes 2 to 3 minutes. For non-UK nationals using a share code, it takes around 5 minutes, plus a few minutes to generate the share code on gov.uk if you do not already have one.
Can I still accept tasks while I am verifying?
If you are an existing Tasker and the deadline has not yet passed, yes. You can continue to accept and complete tasks while your verification is pending. However, once the deadline arrives, any Tasker who has not completed the process will have their account restricted.
What information does Taskrabbit collect?
All Taskers complete an identity check (scanning a government-issued ID) and a selfie through Persona. For UK passport holders, this also serves as your Right to Work proof, so nothing further is collected. For non-UK nationals, we also collect your share code and date of birth for the Right to Work step.
We do not collect or store sensitive immigration documents. All data is encrypted and handled in line with UK data protection law.
Who is Persona?
Persona is Taskrabbit's identity verification partner. They are on the UK government's approved vendor list and handle millions of verifications globally. Your data is processed securely and only used for the purpose of verifying your right to work.
I am a dual national. Which route should I use?
If you hold a UK passport, use the UK citizen route (passport verification). You do not need a share code if you have a valid UK passport.
What happens if my right to work has an expiry date?
If your immigration status has an expiry date, you will need to re-verify before it expires. Taskrabbit will notify you in advance when your verification is approaching expiry so you have time to renew.
What if I have a pending visa application?
If you have applied to extend or change your visa and are waiting for a decision, you may still be able to generate a share code using your existing immigration status. Visit gov.uk/prove-right-to-work to check. If you are unable to get a share code, contact Taskrabbit Support.
I am not comfortable sharing my data. Is this mandatory?
We understand your concern, however this is a legal requirement in order to use the Taskrabbit platform and not something Taskrabbit can waive. We have designed the process to collect the minimum amount of information needed, and all data is handled securely. If you have specific concerns about data handling, please contact us and we are happy to explain further.
Will I need to do this again in the future?
UK citizens with indefinite right to work should not need to re-verify. Non-UK nationals with time-limited immigration status will need to re-verify when their permission to work is renewed. We will always give you advance notice.
