UK Right to Work: What Is the Appeal and Support Process?

If your Right to Work verification did not pass, this Support Center article explains what happens next and how you can get support.

Why did my verification fail?

A failed verification means that the UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) system did not return a positive right to work result for the share code and date of birth you provided. This can happen for several reasons:

  • The share code was linked to an immigration status that does not include the right to work.

  • There is a mismatch between your current immigration status and what the UKVI system holds.

  • Your immigration status has expired or changed since the share code was generated.

A failed check does not necessarily mean you do not have the right to work. It means the automated check could not confirm it, and further review is needed.

What happens to my account?

Your account will not be immediately restricted after a failed check. Failed verifications are reviewed individually by the Taskrabbit team before any action is taken. You will be contacted directly with the outcome of that review and any next steps.

How the review process works:

  1. We review your case. The Taskrabbit team will look at the verification result in detail. If we need additional information from you, we will reach out by email.

  2. You have the opportunity to respond. If the result is potentially disqualifying, you will receive a written explanation of what was found and a clear window of time to provide additional documentation or context.

  3. A decision is made. After reviewing your response, the team will make a final decision. You will be notified of the outcome in writing.

What can I do in the meantime?

  • Check your immigration status. Visit gov.uk/view-right-to-work to confirm what the UKVI system currently holds for you. If there is an error, you may need to contact the Home Office to have it corrected.

  • Try generating a new share code. If your immigration status has recently been updated (for example, a visa renewal was processed), a new share code may reflect the updated information.

  • Gather supporting documents. If you have paperwork confirming your right to work (such as a visa decision letter or BRP), keep it ready. The review team may ask to see it.

How long will the review take?

We aim to resolve all cases within 5 working days of the initial notification. More complex cases that require additional documentation may take longer. You will be kept informed throughout.

What if I disagree with the outcome?

If you believe the final decision is incorrect, you can request a further review by contacting Taskrabbit Support and providing any additional evidence. We take these matters seriously and will re-examine your case.
